Sept, 2010 Presidentís Report
I announced at the all employee meeting and the Retiree meeting that our building has been sold, the final documents were signed the week of August 23rd.† The new owners will be taking possession of the building November 1st, 2010.
If you have stopped by the Local recently, you have seen a lot of action since we started packing boxes and moving items to the new building. We are planning to have most things moved and set up in the new location by October 1st, 2010.
We will be having the final Retiree meeting on October 13th, and the last Regular membership meeting on October 19th at our old location on Michigan Ave. It will be our final chance to say goodbye to this great building that our sisters and brothers had built so long ago.
The retirees will meet in November at UAW Local 174, located at 29841 Van Born Road, Romulus, MI.† The date will be announced at the next Retiree meeting.† I wish to thank greatly John Zimmick, President of UAW Local 174 for his gracious invitation to use his facilities for our retirees since the new location can not accommodate the large number of retirees we have.
We will have our November Regular Membership Meeting at the new building located at 454 Chidester Ave. Ypsilanti, MI.

Dingell: Willow Run Workers Now Eligible for Trade Adjustment Assistance
Washington, DC - Congressman John D. Dingell (D-MI15) praised the U.S. Department of Laborís decision to grant a Trade Adjustment Assistance (TAA) certification to the General Motors workers at the Willow Run Transmission Plant. This means workers at Willow Run can now apply for TAA. The TAA program provides aid to workers who lose their jobs or whose hours of work and wages are reduced as a result of increased foreign imports. Under the Trade Adjustment Assistance program, workers may be eligible for training, job search and relocation allowances, income support and other reemployment services. (more)
